How do I find every recurring charge on my statement?
Define the search period
Recurring charges form patterns across dates, descriptions and amounts. Start with the statements you have and write down the period they cover. A longer span can reveal quarterly or annual payments that one month misses. Label each account and currency. The list can cover every matching charge in those records, while payments outside that period remain a separate check.

Make paper columns for date, description, amount and account. Copy outgoing payments, then group similar descriptions. Preserve the original wording beside shorter names. A payment processor can appear for unrelated services, so a shared description alone leaves the service uncertain. Receipts can connect payments with services. Keep separate purchases separate until the records support a match.
Look for intervals
Put dates in order within each group. Mark gaps that appear weekly, monthly, quarterly or yearly. Dates can shift around weekends or vary with month length. Amounts can vary for usage-based bills. Record those differences rather than removing the rows. Repeated purchases at a shop may be separate purchases; a receipt or agreement helps distinguish these from a repeating service charge.
Example: made-up figures
Imagine a service charge of 20 currency units on 5 January, 5 February and 5 March. The repeated description, amount and monthly dates show a monthly pattern. Another service appears at 60 on 10 January and 10 April, suggesting a quarterly pattern. Twelve payments of 20 total 240 over a year. Four payments of 60 also total 240. Both annual totals assume the patterns continue unchanged.
Cross-check coverage
Return to each statement and tick each copied payment once. Keep refunds beside original payments, showing both amounts. Add columns for the observed interval and latest date. A receipt may supply a renewal date, which differs from an estimated date based on past payments. Label likely recurrence as a pattern inferred from dates and confirmed renewal as one supported by a service record. This keeps the findings hand-checkable.
Keep a record of your check
Write the document dates and page numbers beside your notes. Trace each copied amount back to its original row, then repeat the addition and subtraction once. Keep estimates visibly labelled and retain the original units. This leaves a clear record of which numbers came from documents and which came from your calculation, so another person can follow the same steps with the same papers.
